The IP program is composed of four rotations during which students complete assignments and projects to fulfill competencies derived from the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) 2017 Eligibility Requirements and Accreditation Standards for IP Programs. The intern spends nine weeks in each of the first three rotations which are community, foodservice management and clinical. All competencies required by ACEND are met in the curriculum. These competencies are available on the ACEND website.
The Elective (concentration) module (Nutrition Focused Outcomes) lasts approximately five weeks and takes place after the intern has met required competencies associated with the Clinical, Community and Management rotations. Prior to starting the project, the intern will accomplish CRDN 2.13 Prepare a plan for professional development according to Commission on Dietetics Registration guidelines. The elective rotation will give the intern opportunity for self-reflection and planning. Additional competencies to be met are based on the elective concentration.
